The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Ebonyi State Command, arrested 112 suspects and seized 55.947 kilogrammes of illicit drugs between January and March 2025.
State Commander Peter Ogar confirmed the development during a press briefing on Wednesday in Abakaliki. He said the suspects were arrested across several locations in the state for drug use, trafficking, and distribution.
“We arrested 112 suspects, 85 males and 27 females, aged between 16 and 76,” Ogar stated.
He added that the Command also counselled 59 suspects within the same period. The group included 45 males and 14 females aged between 21 and 76 years.
The seized drugs included 43.582kg of Cannabis Sativa, 0.004kg of Tramadol tablets, 0.400kg of Tramadol 100mg (1,189 capsules), and 0.207kg of Diazepam (988 tablets). The Command also recovered 11.2kg of monkey tail, 0.054kg of methamphetamine, 0.020kg of bromazepam (46 tablets), 0.244kg of pentazocine (84 ampoules), and 0.014kg of heroin.
“All recovered substances weigh 55.947 kilogrammes, including other assorted psychotropic drugs,” Ogar noted.
The Commander further revealed that four suspects were convicted within three months. He said one suspect caught with a locally made pistol was handed over to the police for further investigation.
Ogar reiterated the Command’s resolve to tackle drug abuse in Ebonyi. He urged community leaders, parents, and schools to support the agency’s fight against drug-related crimes.
He disclosed that the Command had launched drug education workshops in all 13 local government areas of the state. The sensitisation campaigns mainly targeted young people and secondary school students.
