The Nigerian Army is set to launch a full investigation of viral video showing alleged brutality by nigerian army Major towards a man and a woman in Abuja.
In a post on its official page, Director of Army Public Relations, Onyema Nwachukwu, stated that the Army acknowledged the video circulating on social media. He however noted that the circumstances surrounding the incident are currently unclear.
According to the statement, Acting Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has ordered an immediate investigation to determine the facts of the altercation, reassuring the public of its commitment to protecting all law-abiding Nigerians, as mandated by the Constitution.
The Army wants to assure everyone that they will thoroughly investigate this incident and get to the bottom of it. They urge the public to remain calm and confident that the investigation will lead to a just conclusion.
He wrote, “The attention of the Nigerian Army (NA) has been drawn to a viral audio-visual recording circulating on social media platforms, purportedly showing a senior Army officer and 2 other soldiers in an altercation with a man and woman within the Abuja metropolis.
“The circumstances leading to this incident are not clear at the moment. However, the Acting Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has ordered an immediate investigation to unravel the true circumstances surrounding this altercation.”
