The Academic Staff Union of Nwafor Orizu College of Education has called on the state government to look into the welfare of the staff members of the Institution.
The Union made this call during a meeting with the Commissioner for Education, Prof Ngozi Chuma-Udeh at the Udoji Secretariat, Awka.
Addressing the members of the Union, Prof Chuma-Udeh urged them to exercise patience with the administration as it just got into office, adding that issues raised would be attended to in no distant time.
“This is a new government that just assumed office barely three months ago; it is at its early stage and I urge you to give it time to settle down and matters would be resolved amicably.’’
The Chairman of the Union, Mr Ugochukwu Ughaerumba earlier in his address noted that the staff members of the college were not getting the required emolument and cannot compete effectively with their colleagues in other states of the country.
He appealed to the present administration for the implementation of the consequential adjustment of the minimum wage increase to the workers’ salary.
Mr Ughaerumba also called for government intervention in the development of the school saying that the management is financially handicapped to address the myriad of problems facing the institution.
