The Transition Committee Chairman for Njikoka Local Government Area Barrister Dominic Ononiba has charged leaders in their various areas of competence to show leadership by example to positively influence the society.
Barrister Ononiba a guest speaker at the NUJ 2024 Patrons and Veterans Day and Accountability Conference in Awka, spoke passionately about accountability as key to changing the narrative of poor and corrupt governance.
In Anambra State, he expects that the citizenry will support the purpose ful administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo to actualize his vision for the state.
Barrister Ononiba equally expects journalists to be truly the watchdog of the society to positively influence affairs in the country.
On his part, the President General of the Urum Community Chief Aloysius Tabansi who bagged an NUJ patron award, expects journalists in the state to be objective in their reportage to ensure the accountability of public office holders.
The keynote speaker at the event and the former Dean Faculty of Environmental Sciences Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka campus Prof Clifford Nwanna spoke of the constitutional role of journalists in nation building and in acting as watchdogs of the society.
Earlier in a welcome address,the committee Chairperson of the NUJ 2024 Patrons and Veterans Day and accountability Conference, Comrade Ukpa Ewa of the State Information Chapel thanked the members of the State NUJ and all friends and associates of the Union who saw to the success of the conference.
Highpoint at the occasion was the inauguration of the NUJ Veterans Advisory Council Forum to be headed by Dr. Dennis Ekemezie.
Some of the members of the Council include Comrade Michael Ezenwata of the NUJ Information Chapel, Comrade Monic Okechukwu of the Kpakpando FM Mbaukwu, Comrade Jude Atupuluazi of the Fides Newspaper among others.
