“It was with rude shock that I received the news of the passing of High Chief Maja Umeh (Okwaka Amichi), whom I have known since our days at Christ the King College, Onitsha.
“He served as Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism under my predecessor, Mr. Peter Obi.
“A devoted member of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), he was a passionate political enthusiast, gifted orator, strategist, historian, and mobiliser.
“A lover of his native culture and tradition, Maja takes pride in actively participating in the rich cultural festivals and practices that characterises his community and Ndi Anambra.
“Maja was broad-minded, humorous, sociable, and kind-hearted — the kind of friend anyone would cherish.
“We will miss him dearly.
“May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace”.
