The youth wing of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, on Monday re-elected Mazi Okwu Nnabuike as its National President.
Okwu was re-elected in Enugu, alongside other members of the group’s National Executive Council (NEC).
In a statement issued by the Chairman of the Election Committee, Dr. Barr. Maduabuchi Anthony, the group reiterated its demand for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
The newly elected NEC members include: Chuks Ikekpeazu – Deputy National President; National Vice President Abia – Nwamkpa Chinonso; National Vice President Ebonyi – Nwaite Casmir; National Vice President Anambra – Uzoigwe Josephat; National Vice President Delta – Alvin Dubem; and National Vice President Rivers – Bobby Ezimonye.
Others include National Secretary – Comrade Obinna Achionye; Assistant National Secretary – Chizoba Kenechukwu; National Publicity Secretary – Ebubechukwu S. N.; Financial Secretary – Chioma Izunna; and National Treasurer – Enyinna Joseph.
Anthony said state youth leaders were also elected, among whom are: Abia State – Ogbonnaya Obasi; Anambra State – Kingsley Azubuike; Enugu State – Ndubuisi Ezema; Ebonyi State – Sunday Everistus Nweze; Imo State – Udochukwu Aligwoekwe; Delta State – Nwogueze Chinweuba; and Abuja FCT – Ugwueze Uzoh.
In his acceptance speech, Okwu said the Ohanaeze youths were committed to the economic and political emancipation of the Igbo nation.
He expressed concern over the prolonged incarceration of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Okwu said: “Our stand has always been so clear; we want an Igbo nation that will grow in leaps and bounds, an Igbo nation where we will experience economic expansion.
“We want to make a renewed demand for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. We are shocked that our leaders did not make that a priority when President Bola Tinubu visited Enugu State.
“The problem we have always had is when politicians want to hijack Ohanaeze for their selfish motives; we shall continue to resist it. As I thank Igbo youths for the confidence reposed in me, my assurance is that I will work for the collective interest of the region.”
It could be recalled that Okwu served for four years before being re-elected for another term.
