The Anambra Commissioner for Culture, Entertainment, and Tourism, Mr. Don Onyenji has called on Ndi Anambra to preserve and protect artifacts for they are vehicles for tourism and symbols of our identity and cultural values.
The Commissioner made this call in an interview session in his office at Jerome Udoji Secretariat, Awka.
According to him, Artifacts tell our story, speak a lot about who we are and depict our culture hence, we need to preserve it for the next generations to know where we came from, our values, and the things we cherished as Ndi Igbo.
“It is also a vehicle for tourism too because people come down from around the world to see them,” he said.
He declared that very soon the Igboukwu Museum will be revamped to attract more tourists and researchers.
“The government of Prof. Charles Soludo is prepared to promote the cultural heritage of Ndi Anambra that’s why culture is at the forefront in the Ministry, followed by Entertainment and Tourism.
“We will also organize the Anambra Arts and Cultural festival, which also is a way of harnessing what we have, protecting them, and as well create more that will tell the story of the contemporary Ndi Igbo,” he said.
He, then, advised everyone to cherish their cultural heritage, artifacts and also patronize sculptor artists.
