In yet another troubling incident in Enugu State, suspected kidnappers abducted eight people, including a traditional priestess and local farmers, in Ohebe Orba, Udenu Local Government Area. The victims were reportedly on their way to a river for a ritual when they were seized on Wednesday night, April 16, 2025.
Reports indicate that the abductors initially demanded N50 million in ransom but later reduced the amount to N15 million after contacting the victims’ families.
This incident follows closely on the heels of another kidnapping case in Ibagwa Agu, Nsukka LGA, where 13 people, including Maurice Osmond, his son, and another child, were taken on April 12. The kidnappers reportedly demanded N10 million per person. Fortunately, 15 victims from the Ibagwa Agu farm settlement were released on April 17.
Enugu residents are growing increasingly alarmed over the rising wave of abductions, with many urging authorities to ramp up security and ensure the safety of citizens, particularly in rural areas.
Public figures like media personality Chijinkem Ugwuanyi have highlighted the human toll of these incidents, sharing images and accounts of the victims on social media to raise awareness and push for action.
