A few days ago, I posed a question with a promise to reward N10,000 to anyone who could provide a proper analysis. The question centred around a statement made by Reno Omokri about Chief Rotimi Amaechi. Reno criticised Amaechi for ingratiating himself with President Buhari from Daura. Amaechi went to such sycophantic extremes as wearing traditional northern attire and doing everything possible to align himself with Buhari, even trying to appear as “one of them.”
Among other things, Reno wrote: “After I dressed like a Sheikh and took the Dan Amanar Daura title?” He was sarcastically referring to what Amaechi could tell Buhari’s people he had done to earn their trust, only to be ultimately disappointed.
Fast-forward to today, Reno himself seems to have taken sycophancy to an entirely new level, surpassing even what he accused Amaechi of doing. He is now going out of his way to prove his allegiance to President Tinubu, attempting to appear “more Yoruba” than some Yoruba men and women. Have you noticed how he now frequently dons Yoruba traditional attire and even goes as far as promoting it as the finest fabric in the world?
In his quest to outdo Amaechi, here is one of Reno’s recent posts: “Eating Amala Pelu Gbegiri ati Ewedu, prepared by my wife for me.”
Reno has truly taken sycophancy to another level. If Tinubu were to offer him a job tomorrow, he should understand that it would merely be a decision to reward idiocy, not a recognition of intelligence, competence or mark of smartness.
