Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike has appealed to the public to stop drug abuse, trafficking in order to live a healthy and happy life.
Dr. Obidike who enjoined the public to show commitment by reporting those selling all sorts of drugs that damages the future of youths in the society.
He noted that those engaged in the illicit activities are not spirit but individuals living with people across communities.
The theme of World Drug Day 2024 celebration is ” The evidence is clear: Invest in prevention.
According to him, the theme highlights the importance of evidence-based policies to combat drug abuse and illicit trafficking, thereby necessitating, prioritising preventive measures grounded in science, research, compassion, and respect for human rights.

“So, there’s urgent need for everyone to get involved so as to end the drug abuse and illicit trafficking in Nigeria.
“When you visit our Psychiatric hospital Nawfia you will understand why it is crucial for everybody to join in this fight because government cannot do it alone.
“We will continue to raise awareness about drug abuse, promote prevention and treatment, and encourage the public to cooperate us to combat drug trafficking across the state.
“In this year celebration we partnered with the Healthy Living with Dr. Mrs. Nonye Soludo to sensitise no fewer than 500 persons in Oyi Local Government Area of the state.
“Our appreciation goes to her Excellency the wife of our Executive Gov. Prof. Charles Soludo for her commitment to end drug abuse and illicit trafficking.”
