Youths has been urged to shun violence or any form of criminal activities that might rub them off their future.
Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo through his Deputy, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim gave the charge during the Leadership Retreat and Inauguration of the new leadership of National Youth Council of Nigeria, Anambra State chapter held at the Retreat Centre, Okpuno.
The event has its theme as “Proactive Youth Leadership: The Solution for Economy, Peaceful and Livable Homeland”.
Gov. Soludo encouraged the youths to see leadership as all encompassing devoid of background or where you come from. He said that now calls for the opportunity of the youths in the state to rise up and take their mantle of leadership to the next level.
“The Government have a vision to build a smart mega city with the support of the youths. We need to believe in ourselves and behave orderly for any meaningful development to permeate to the grassroots,” he noted.
The Governor noted that the essence of leadership is to make individuals who are poor in character to be good and strive to make the better ones to be the best.
Also speaking, the Chief of Protocol and Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr Chinedu Nwoye said that the role of the youths in the nation building and sustenance of peaceful society cannot be over emphasized.
He noted that youths form the largest percentage of the labour force and when they are meaningfully engaged in their works, the crime rate would be highly reduced.
“Let’s not use poverty as an excuse to indulge in criminalities rather use it to discover the ingenuity God has deposited in you.
“Don’t look for employment rather create employment for people and that is the only way to bring solution to the economy.”
While describing solution as a restoration and improvement of an ugly situation, Mr Nwoye assured that the Soludo led administration is a Government of solution, calling on the youths to support his vision of making Anambra State livable.
The outgoing State Chairman NYCN, Comrade Samuel Egwuatu congratulated and encouraged the new excos to be ready and prepared to engage in a transformational, inclusive and developmental leadership.
“Today stands to mark a strong point in the career of leadership as it concerns the youth constituency.
“Leadership is not a title, rather, it avails you the opportunity to acquire responsibility; go down to communities and catch them young,” he charged the new executive.
Some of the keynote speakers at the occasion include the Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Forster Ihejiofor, Commissioner for Youth Development, Hon. Patrick Agha Mba, and MD/CEO Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS), Sir Chido Obidiegwu.
The trio respectively advised the youths on the need to embrace humility, hard work and to pass thorough learning processes.
They also charged them all to be part of the transformative agenda of NYCN and to always think of ways to impart values to the society.
The inauguration of the new NYCN executive, conferment of ‘Grand Commander’ of the Anambra youths and also a certificate of recognition to the Anambra Deputy Governor and the unveiling of NYCN Youth Television formed the highpoints of the occasion.
