According to her the free Health Insurance Scheme that was opened up for this group of persons and still ongoing has also helped them to access care.
“As the State HIV/AIDS Program Coordinator, my advice to members of the public especially the youths is to always have it in mind that HIV/AIDS is still real and just like Malaria, it lives with us.
“They should be free to test and if negative do all in their power to remain negative and if positive not to be ashamed to step out for treatment so as not to continue spreading the virus.
She explained that a few days before the World HIV/AIDS celebration the state organised a symposium to mark the celebration.
“The State Health Commissioner during a Press briefing reiterated government commitment in supporting HIV/AIDS programme and prevention across the state.
“We also went for road work to sensitize members of the public about HIV/AIDS and with testing sites at strategic points, worthy to note that HIV services are free of charge. Thanks to our government for the collaboration.
“Ways of prevention of this virus still remain best practices and abstinence remains the key as above 80% of contraction are related to unprotected and unhealthy sexual lifestyles, then if we must engage in random sexual act, the correct use of condoms is advised.’’
