Former Rivers State Governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has revealed why he chose to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the last presidential election and the warnings he received. In a video that was shared by SYMFONI TV, speaking at the Ahoada East and West PDP end-of-year thanksgiving event in Rivers State, Wike slammed his critics and reiterated his unwavering decisions during the election.
Wike stated that many people warned him against supporting Tinubu, who was then the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC). They told him that if the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won, he would face severe consequences, including being arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and possibly sent to jail. However, Wike said he remained firm because he believed in doing what was right for his people.
“I said all this plot you’re hearing, do you know the plot of God?” Wike asked. “In my conscience, I will not support you. I will support Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu, no matter the consequences. That’s how you know men of character.”
He made it clear that his choice was based on ensuring that his people would not be treated as second-class citizens. Wike emphasized that he had no regrets or apologies for his decision and would make the same choice again if the opportunity arose.
The outspoken politician also stressed the importance of consistency and integrity, stating that he’s not a man you will see at night, and in the afternoon, it is a different thing.
Wike’s bold remarks highlight his stance on loyalty, leadership, and standing up for what he believes in.
