The Anambra State Government, known or unknown to them, is setting up President Tinubu for unnecessary disapproval by the people of Anambra State and other Nigerians.
The tactical barricade of the entire city of Awka because of the President’s visit is a PR disaster for the President. You can’t really justify shutting down the entire city and preventing people from moving freely throughout the city because the President is coming. Nobody will be happy to go through that and still be happy with the president in addition to preexisting discomforts. Therefore, being forced into one more discomfort will naturally be a minus for the President, who, before now, does not enjoy the full weight of the people’s goodwill in Anambra State.
As of this moment, people can’t move anywhere in Awka. Commuters are stranded. From Amawbia to Agu-Awka, the entire city is practically cordoned, and people are visibly angry that they had to go through needless long walks because the President is coming.
For President Tinubu, his visit to Anambra should present an image of the people’s President, with all efforts geared towards earning the people’s credit.
Unfortunately, what people are being subjected to would not allow them see the President any differently from an oppressive dictator and I’m afraid, the President would not win goodwill from this visit.
The blame goes squarely to the government of Anambra State. If Lagos shuts down like this because of the President’s visit, there won’t be Lagos anymore.
This is really a disaster, and it is disturbing that the Anambra State Government can so carelessly mismanage what would have been an excellent outing for the President. The President would now earn more negative reviews from ordinary Nigerians whose free movements have been temporarily suspended throughout the city of Awka.
