Tourism, One of the Biggest Revenue-Generating Sectors in the World – Culture Commissioner

By Ifeyinwa Ogwo :

Anambra Commissioner for Culture, Entertainment, and Tourism, Mr. Don Onyenji says Tourism is one of the biggest revenue-generating sectors in the world which most countries depend on even beyond oil.

The Commissioner said this in a press briefing with the Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS) in his office at Jerome Udoji Secretariat, Awka, to mark the World Tourism Day.

Mr. Onyenji noted that the Solution Governor, Prof. Charles Soludo has a great passion for the tourism industry which necessitated the move to create a leisure park at the Agulu lake site.

“We want to create rural tourism in all the communities in the state to attract investors and to showcase our rich cultural heritage.

“This will not only boost our economy but will also create job opportunities for our youth and promote small-scale businesses.

“Tourism is supported by security and our governor is working hard to ensure that the state is safe for everyone and our visitors,” he emphasized.

The commissioner observed that tourism in Nigeria has not developed professionally like it is seen in other countries like India, Lebanon, Dubai, and others that make money through the industry.

“Although some states like Portharcourt, Lagos, Abuja, and Calabar are trying in their tourism sector, they have not attained a professional height.”

He, then, called on private sectors who are interested to invest in the Anambra State Leisure park at Agulu lake to come forth, noting that government will partner with them.
