A community in Anambra State has been thrown into mourning following the tragic death of four siblings in Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government Area, after a suspected case of food poisoning.
The incident, which occurred in the early hours of May 6, 2025, has prompted a swift response from the Anambra State Police Command.
According to official reports, operatives from the Ogidi Division arrived promptly at the scene after receiving a distress call.
The lifeless bodies of the children were recovered and have been deposited at the morgue, where autopsies will be conducted.
Their mother, who also consumed the same meal, is currently hospitalized in critical condition and receiving intensive medical care. Her survival and testimony are expected to play a crucial role in uncovering the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed that samples of the suspected food have been collected and sent for forensic analysis.
In addition, officers are interviewing neighbors and other potential witnesses to gather further insights into the tragedy.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended condolences to the grieving family.
He assured the public that the police are committed to a thorough investigation and will leave no stone unturned in the quest for answers.
The Anambra State Police Command has pledged to keep the public informed as more details emerge from the ongoing investigation.
