Vinicius Junior netted a hat-trick as defending champions Real Madrid rallied from a two-goal deficit to triumph over Borussia Dortmund 5-2 in the Champions League on Tuesday.
Antonio Rüdiger sparked the comeback with a header in the 60th minute, followed by Vinicius two minutes later. Lucas Vazquez added a goal in the 83rd, and Vinicius capped it off with a brilliant solo effort in the 86th and again in stoppage time.
The outcome seemed unlikely at halftime, with Dortmund leading 2-0 thanks to goals from Donyell Malen and Jamie Bynoe-Gittens. Real Madrid, the record 15-time champions, showed resilience reminiscent of their 2-0 victory over Dortmund in last season’s final at Wembley.
After bouncing back from a 1-0 defeat to Lille, Madrid now has six points, matching Dortmund, who suffered their first setback after winning their opening two matches. “We changed formation and the dynamics in the second half. This is our competition, and make no mistake, we want to win it again,” Vinicius Junior told Movistar.
