The Chief Medical Director, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH) Nnewi, Prof Joseph Ugboaja, has restated the commitment of the hospital’s management to continuous training and retraining of health workers to deliver quality services.
Speaking during a Press brief following celebration of the first anniversary of the commission of the facility, he described staff capacity building as one of the cardinal means to elevate the facility to rank among the three top in the nation by year 2030.
“My team and i have embarked on a journey to transform this hospital, enhance the quality of clinical services and medical training, foster research, innovation and ultimately change the landscape of healthcare delivery in the nation.
“We want to use partnerships and collaborations, ICT based practice (e-medicine), staff training, welfare and motivation, infrastructural development and strategic human resource management to achieve our goals”
While affirming that continuous training will also improve staff attitude to work, he described the recent visit of the Coordinating Health Minister, Prof Muhammed Ali Pate as apt and eventful.
Prof Ugboaja noted that federal government is passionate about the healthcare delivery, affirming its commitment to the sector’s renewal initiative in line with the health policy thrusts.
He further noted that the hospital’s projects commissioning were evidences of the fulfillment of promises made by the government and signified the continued progress of the health facility to becoming a dominant player in the sector.
While affirming that relocation to its permanent site had created the platform for transformation, he appreciated President Bola Tinubu, Prof Muhammed Ali Pate, Gov Chukwuma Soludo, Sir Emeka Offor, Chief Cletus Ibeto, Sen Ifeanyi Uba and foundation members who contributed to development of the institution.
