Renowned journalist and media personality, Nedu Ani (commonly known as Nedu Wazobia), recently commented on the arrest and detention of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), by the Department of State Security (DSS). His remarks, which sparked significant public attention, questioned the contrasting reactions to Kanu’s arrest compared to that of Sunday Igboho, a fellow activist.
In his post on social media, Nedu Ani expressed his concerns over the public’s celebratory response to Kanu’s detention, noting that when Kanu was arrested in Kenya and brought to Nigeria, there were jubilant celebrations across northern Nigeria. He contrasted this with Igboho’s situation, highlighting that while Kanu faced arrest and detention by the DSS, Igboho, despite his similar activism, had not been subjected to the same fate.
“As he put it,” Nedu continued, “when Nnamdi Kanu was arrested, the entire Northern Nigeria erupted in celebration, and even the Attorney General of the Federation made a special national broadcast in Hausa to announce his capture.”
