The State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Mr. Ifeanyi Okoma has said that government through his ministry has so far completed 316 kilometers of roads in the state.
Okoma who disclosed this when he appeared before the Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Works during the budget defense/bilateral discussion said the budget for the ministry of Works in 2025 is 259 billion naira.
He revealed that 528 km of roads have been awarded while 316km of roads have been completed.
” We are trying to make sure that Anambra State becomes a liveable, prosperous homeland.
“The changes of prices of materials, fuel, cements, amongst others are part of the challenges which affected our budget. We are doing more with less.
” Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Wednesday, plied the flyover. The flyover will be completed by first week of December with the Infrastructure.
” We have also intervened on the Federal roads and have spent billions of naira including the Owerri-Onitsha road and Amawbia-Uga road.
” We have 8.7 million people currently living in Anambra State and by 2070 it will rise to 38 million, this is why we are doing dualization of roads so that people can move freely”,Okoma added
The Commissioner listed the Ekwulobia flyover, Solution Funcity, new Government house, Aroma flyover, ten story hotel, amongst others as legacy projects of the present administration.
Also, the State Commissioner for Transport, Barr. Patricia Igwebuike while interfacing with the lawmakers said the budget was realistic, adding that they will work tirelessly in making sure that Ndi Anambra get value for their money.
Barr. Igwebuike who defended her budget alongside ARTMA, VIO, and TRACAS assured that the ministry would improve its performance next year 2025.
However, the House Committee Chairman on Works, Hon. Emma Nwafor and the Committee Chairman on Transport, Hon. Kingsley Udemezue in their separate remarks assured that the 8th Assembly would assist all MDA’s in making sure that the budget of 2025 achieve its purpose.
