Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, at the weekend, led dignitaries and prominent personalities across the state to celebrate elder statesman and former governor of old Anambra State, Senator Jim Nwobodo, on his 85th birthday.
Speaking during the celebration held at Nwobodo’s country home in Amechi Awkunanaw, Enugu, on Friday evening, Governor Mbah described the octogenarian as an embodiment of selfless service and excellence.
“It is difficult to find words that fully capture the true essence of what Dr. Jim Ifeanyichukwu Nwobodo represents. Your life is living proof that the true value of existence lies in service to others,” Mbah said.

He added: “At 39, you served as Governor and left bold legacies that endure. As Minister of Youth and Sports, your record remains a benchmark. As a Senator, you displayed unmatched patriotism and courage. You are a priceless gift to Enugu State, Nigeria, and humanity at large. We are blessed to have you.”
Governor Mbah wished the elder statesman continued good health and many more fruitful years to enable younger generations to benefit from his wisdom and leadership experience.
In his response, Senator Nwobodo praised Governor Mbah’s leadership, describing him as a success whose results speak for themselves.
“Peter Mbah is a success, whether anybody likes it or not. What he is today is by divine design. He listens and is open to ideas. I suggested something to him recently, and he not only reflected on it but has already begun implementation. That is the mark of a leader destined to go far,” he said.
Nwobodo expressed gratitude to the governor for organizing the event in his honour, stressing the importance of celebrating people while they are still alive.
“I did not expect an elaborate celebration like this. But the governor insisted. He believes people should be celebrated in their lifetime, and I thank him for this gesture. I also thank all who came out to honour me today,” he added.
The event was attended by former Enugu State governor, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi; Deputy Governor, Barr. Ifeanyi Ossai; members of the State Executive Council; serving and former lawmakers; local government chairmen led by Hon. Okechukwu Edeh, Chairman of Enugu ALGON; and traditional rulers led by the Chairman of Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council, His Majesty, Igwe Samuel Ikechukwu Asadu, among others.
